Nanthomba Primary School in Malawi, Africa- Students take skills home- Income sustains school projects: Children’s non-profit: HELP
HELP is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing children Hope, Education, Love and Protection and a chance to make their dreams and aspirations become a reality. Currently, HELP has established programs in Malawi, Africa.
With each day HELP is constantly evolving; adding new projects and goals that will ensure a better quality of life for not only the children, but everyone in the village as well. HELP is not only committed to academics at Nanthomba Primary School but also equipping the students with marketable entrepreneurial skills- Community Economic Empowerment.
Tinsmith
In Malawi tinsmith work is known to be for men but Nanthomba School brings a difference. A Total of nine students, both boys and girls are able to make pots, pails, washing basins, watering canes and many more right at the school. Most interestingly, some students already started relieving their parents from buying new pails and pots every time they won out – by mending them.
Necklace Making
Just from a recycled paper amazing water proof-long lasting beads for beautiful necklaces are made by young entrepreneurs at Nanthomba School. Students are shown how to make money out of disposable materials (that would otherwise be thrown out) during their free time. High quality necklaces made by the students are on great demand by both locals and tourists. Income realized from the sales of these products is re-invested to sustain the activities.
*Magazine necklaces are available for sale on the HELP website: http://www.helpchildren.org. Each piece is earth friendly and handmade. 100% of the proceeds goes directly back to the HELP programs. Please join HELP through the purchase of a Magazine Necklace/wrap bracelet to spread Hope, Education, Love and Protection to the children in need.
